Extreme jamming in Free South Africa Climb

Armchair adrenalin junkies can get a taste of some of the best adventure films in a festival trailer just released.

Alastair Lee’s video for the Sheffield Adventure Films Festival features everything from wild ice climbs to crazy mountain bike stunts and should wet viewers’ appetites for the programme of films on view later this year.

The subjects of ShAFF’s films are a little wider than the conventional mountain film festivals, with shorts on promoting Afghanistan as an unlikely climbing tourism venue, paragliding in the Karakorum,  and coast-to-coast sea kayaking in Britain.

There are also more mainstream climbing and mountaineering films, such as Nico Favresse and Sean Villanueva’s extreme jamming free climb in South Africa, complete with mandolin and tin whistle and, closer to home, British climbing ace Ryan Pasquill’s first ascent of Gerty Berwick, the last great problem at Ilkley.

The film programme for the event, which runs from 12 to 14 March at the Showroom Cinema, is as varied as you’ll get in a festival of its kind.

Details and ticket sales can be found on the ShAFF website.
