Walkers’ views are being sought on plans to extend a long-distance route on Dartmoor.

The Dartmoor Way is currently made up of two routes, one for walkers and another for cyclists. The circular walkers’ path is 138km (86 miles) long and starts at Buckfastleigh.

Regeneration company Devon Renaissance is looking at promoting an extension of the routes into the southern part of the moor, to take in Plymouth, South Brent and Ivybridge. There are also plans to improve signs along the way, promote it both locally and nationally and increase its use with corresponding benefits to local businesses and accommodation providers.

The company is seeking the views of walkers and cyclists and has set up an online survey to gauge opinion on the plans.

Matt Parkins of Devon Renaissance said: “We have set up really easy to use, quick surveys to get wide feedback from potential users, accommodation providers, local businesses and local communities across Dartmoor and beyond. We are hoping that many different types of people will contact us with their views.”

The survey can be accessed from the Devon Renaissance website.

The current route coincides in parts with the Tarka Trail, the Taw-Teign Link, West Devon Way and Two Castles Trail.
