A group of walkers airlifted from a Snowdonia mountainside were poorly equipped and had no idea where they were going, rescuers said.

The inexperienced hikers set out for the Devil’s Kitchen in the Ogwen Valley late yesterday afternoon.

As night fell, one of the women in the group, who had a known heart condition, complained of feeling unwell and being short of breath.

The party called for help and members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation went to their aid.

Rescuers also requested the help of a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley because of the woman’s medical condition.

The group was found on the 831m (2,726ft) Foel Goch, more than 2km (1¼ miles) north of the Devil’s Kitchen. They had no map.

A spokesperson for the OVMRO said: “The entire party were flown to Bangor hospital for their own safety.”
