A walker was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries while scrambling.

The 57-year-old man from Lanarkshire fell on Rannerdale Knotts above Crummock Water yesterday, Sunday.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the man’s aid after being alerted about 7.35pm and 21 volunteer members took part in the walker’s rescue.

Steve Brailey of Cockermouth MRT said: “The suspected injuries, a fractured femur, tibia and a head injury were serious enough for evacuation by RAF helicopter from Boulmer.”
