Outdoor enthusiasts are being offered the chance to see what’s on offer by a medical training firm – and raise cash for two charities.

Mountain Trauma is opening its doors at its base at Crosthwaite, west of Kendal, this weekend where visitors can see life-saving techniques.

The company’s open day will take place on Sunday and will showcase its services which include training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and defibrillator use.

Visitors will also be able to see its rescue equipment and event medical services set-up, its water rescue boat and 4×4 response vehicle.

Mountain Trauma has also organised a raffle, with proceeds going jointly to the Great North Air Ambulance and the Michael Machell Fund, which was set up in memory of a former Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team member who died in a climbing accident in California in January. The fund will help young mountaineers’ development.

Prizes include a free mountain first aid course, expedition first aid kit, two bike and two kayak hires, mountaineering books and a pack of local greeting cards.

The event starts at 10am at the base at Town Yeat, Crosthwaite, Kendal. Free refreshments will be available. More details are on the Mountain Trauma website.
