The Pennine Way may become impassable at Dean Clough if expected heavy rain arrives

Mountain rescuers are warning a section of a national trail may become impassable if expected heavy rain this week causes flash flooding.

A yellow warning for rain is currently in force for the area around Black Hill in the Peak District.

Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team said there is a potential for flooding on the Pennine Way in its area, particularly on Tuesday afternoon.

A team spokesperson said: “The currently very dry ground will not absorb the expected heavy rainfall and it will quickly enter water courses.

“As a result it may become impossible to cross Dean Clough safely.

“If conditions are bad use the signed diversion which can be seen on the right hand side of the main Pennine Way path when walking from Black Hill in the direction of the A635.”
