A walker was airlifted from a Cumbrian fell after injuring her leg.

The woman, in her 50s, was walking on Arnside Knott today when she slipped and suffered a suspected broken ankle.

Kendal Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 1.15pm and went to the scene on a path at Far Arnside overlooking Morecambe Bay.

The Pride of Cumbria helicopter from the Great North Air Ambulance also flew to the site.

Rescuers and the crew’s doctor and paramedic treated the walker before she was stretchered to the helicopter which had landed on the sands nearby.

The woman was then airlifted to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for further treatment.
