Yvonne Mullen and her dog

Police have confirmed that the body found near Shap at the weekend was that of missing walker Yvonne Mullen.

A huge search by more than 50 mountain rescue volunteers from across Cumbria and the North of England, aided by local residents, was mounted when the 76-year-old failed to return from walking her dog.

The body was found on Saturday near Hardendale Quarry, close to Crosby Ravensworth Fell where she had gone walking.

Cumbria Constabulary said: “There are no suspicious circumstances regarding her death and the coroner has been informed.”
