Rescuers from across Cumbria have been searching for Yvonne Mullen since Thursday

Police in Cumbria said a body has been found near Crosby Ravensworth Fell.

A spokesperson said the body of an elderly woman was found on Saturday morning in the area of Hardendale Quarry.

The site is in the area where mountain rescuers from across the Lake District and Cumbria had been searching for 78-year-old Yvonne Mullen, who left her home to walk her Staffordshire bull terrier on Thursday.

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesperson said: “Formal identification has not yet taken place and enquiries are ongoing.

“The coroner will be informed.”

Hardendale Quarry is close to the route of the Coast to Coast Walk, east of the M6 near Shap.
