Organisers of the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon have announced that the race will take place next year on 9 and 10 June.

Cryptically, Martin Stone, in charge of organising the event, says he expects it to take place further south than this year’s event. Bearing in mind the 2006 challenge was based around Inchnadamph in Assynt, that’s hardly surprising.

The entry list will open in January and Martin is advising anyone who wants to take part not to dilly-dally: the last event was a sell out.

The race is open to pairs of competitors and takes place over two days, with a camp between.

Courses include elite, A, B, C, D and novice, and ranged this year from just short of 65km down to 34km for the novice class. The routes involve lots of climbing and are a test of navigational prowess as well as fitness. The 2006 marathon took place in poor weather conditions with very bad visibility over lots of complex ground, so if you’re thinking of entering, get practising your micro-nav.
