An RAF helicopter rescued a woman lost in the dark on Snowdon.

The unnamed woman, from York, used her mobile phone to call for help when she became disoriented on Crib Goch.

She rang the rescue services around 8pm last night and a search-and-rescue helicopter was scrambled from nearby RAF Valley on Anglesey. The 30-year-old was lifted from the ridge, suffering from mild hypothermia.

She was taken to the foot of the 1,085m mountain. The rescue involved the aircraft hovering above the ridge and its winch cable extending about 30m to the mountaineer, who was cragfast around 975m.
