Britain’s first national park is claiming another first – its own version of MySpace for lovers of the Peak District.

Peak District visitors can upload pictures and videos to the site by mobile phone

MyPeakExperience offers the chance to upload pictures, video and text to share users’ views and thoughts of the national park. Once signed up as a member, it is possible to create pages and post audio files on favourite Peak places.

There is also a mobile friendly version, which enables photos to be uploaded directly from camera phones.

The project is the idea of the Peak District Interpretation Partnership, an amalgam of local authorities and businesses in the park. Other innovations introduced by the partnership include podcasts of walking routes and downloads available by Bluetooth from national park offices, which contain commentary on beauty spots.

Bill Bevan, Peak Experience project officer, said: "MyPeakExperience enables anyone who likes taking photos or videos, recording sound or writing blogs to share their love and interest for the Peak District with the world. It is very simple to add your images or comments to the site.

"We have taken care of the technology to make it as simple as possible for anyone to get involved and contribute to the site."

The MyPeakExperience website can also be used in conjunction with photo-sharing sites such as Flickr and video-sharing leaders YouTube. There is a separate address for the mobile version.
