The Dales Way will feature in this week’s Countryfile programme on BBC1.

Presenter John Craven has been out and about filming in the Yorkshire Dales national park. As well as examining the 126km (79 mile) Dales Way, the programme will look at the limestone geology of the area and the national park’s Hay Time Project.

The scheme was set up to restore 140 hectares (345 acres) of the Yorkshire Dales, both upland and in the valleys, to its former state as hay meadows, with diverse plant species. The project has been run jointly since 2006 by the national park authority and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

YDMT Hay Time Project officer Pippa Rayner was interviewed for the programme about the scheme and the accompanying festival involving 70 events through the summer.

Series producer Teresa Bogan said: “Both John Craven and the production team were very excited about filming in Wharfedale, and finding out what the Yorkshire Dales has to offer. For John, this was a return to his childhood playground, so he was especially pleased.”

Countryfile is due for transmission on BBC1 this Sunday, 22 June, at 11am.
