Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was in action on Sunday after a man slipped on Striding Edge.

Sixteen members of the team went to the aid of the 50-yer-old, from Essex, who dislocated his shoulder in the fall. He was airlifted from the ridge and taken to hospital in Carlisle.

A spokesman for the team said: “On reaching the scene, the man, who was in a lot of pain, was confirmed to be suffering with a dislocated shoulder. The dislocated shoulder was put back in place on the fell.  

“The man was then placed in a stretcher and airlifted from the scene by a Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer.”

Members of the RAF Leeming MRT, who were training in the area, also helped at the scene.

The Patterdale team also went to the aid of a fisherman who had fallen and injured himself today on the shore of Ullswater. The man had a suspected broken thigh bone. He was stretchered over a high wall to the team’s vehicle, which transported him to a waiting air ambulance.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for treatment.
