One of Yorkshire’s noted Three Peaks comes under the spotlight next month.
Ingleborough and Crummackdale
Walkers will be able to find out more about Ingleborough during six days of events organised to give an insight into the 723m fell which was once the site of a Romano-British hill fort.
There are the usual walks, as well as drystone walling workshops and a chance to brush up photography and art skills.
The Spotlight on Ingleborough Festival starts on Monday 7 July and runs to Saturday 12 July. All events during the festival, run by Natural England and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, are free. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the Heritage Lottery Fund is also supporting the festival.
Much of the activity is centred on Ingleborough’s National Nature Reserve.
Paul Evans, Ingleborough National Nature Reserve manager for Natural England, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity for people to experience the wonderful landscape of this unique area and be able to learn and explore the landscape and wildlife alongside real experts in their field.”
The programme is:
- Monday 7 July: walk around Langcliffe’s quarry and limeworks; badger watch in the evening
- Tuesday 8 July: Ingleborough summit walk; landscape photography workshop; wildlife walk around Ribblehead quarry
- Wednesday 9 July: geology walk in Crummackdale; Limestone Cowboys evening walk; climate change talk
- Thursday 10 July: walk exploring Ingleborough’s historic routes; landscape art workshop; illustrated talk on moths
- Friday 11 July: high-country walk across Ingleborough; slideshow and talk about bats, followed by walk around Clapham
- Saturday 12 July: family walk and kite flying; have-a-go conservation workshops
