A climber was hailed a hero after she stopped her companion drowning after a fall on a Skye sea cliff.
The man, who has not been named, fell 40m into the sea at Staffin, in the north of the island about 4.30pm on Saturday. He was airlifted to hospital in Broadford by a coastguard helicopter.
Ian Burgess of Stornoway Coastguard said the woman climber went to the base of the cliffs after the fall and kept the man’s head above the water while he lay in the sea.
He said the man was receiving medical treatment, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Staffin lies near the northern tip of Skye’s Trotternish peninsula. It is famous for its columns of distinctive dolerite rock which draw climbers to 20 different routes.
