There's an update on our recent story about getting walkers' views of mountain weather forecasts.

grough readers can use the survey form produced by the Public Weather Service Customer Group – an arm of the Met Office which oversees the weather forecasters’ free services – to shape the future forecasts for walkers and mountaineers.
Sadly, it is not possible to order nice, snowy winters, as one of our commenters wanted, nor good sunny days for the mountain tops, but your input will tell the meteorologists how you use the service and how you would like to see it in future.
Alyson Bedford, head of the PWSCG secretariat, told grough: “We’d like to hear from anyone in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or England. The questionnaire is fine to use for the whole of the UK.”
The survey form, in Word format, can be downloaded, filled in then emailed back to the PWSCG.
As we mentioned earlier this week, those filling in the survey have the chance of winning a trip to the Met Office headquarters in Exeter to see forecasting at work. Closing date for entries is 31 August.
The Met Office is also collaborating with mountain rescue organisations and many of the national parks, among others, as part of the consultation.

15 August 2008Is this anything to do with the fact the Scottish Govt just chose to give finance to MWIS rather than the Met because most climbers said they relied on MWIS? I'd hate to see a good weather forecasting service losing out through subterfuge.
