A group of Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants will today continue their expedition after having to be helped from the Cumbrian fells.
Patterdale and Glenridding
The team of seven called for help after becoming lost while undertaking their expedition in the Lake District. Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 9pm yesterday evening to assist the youngsters from Gloucestershire.
They were able to give an accurate grid reference and a good description of their location and the rescue team quickly found them, tired and dispirited but uninjured.
Patterdale MRT members escorted them down off the fell to their campsite in Glenridding.

28 August 2008They knew where they were and couldn't find there way back? I trust they'll fail their D of E Award - and make a substantial contribution to Patterdale MRT.

28 August 2008It's quite possible they knew exactly where they were, but in approaching darkness (not sure what time they asked for help?) they may have felt unable to make their way safely home to their tents. A bit embarrassing, but at least embarrassement isn't fatal.

29 August 2008I once bumped into 4 posh teenage girls on a DOE lost in the clag. I was only too happy to assist with my expert local knowledge and hillcraft. It's all good character building stuff you know.

29 August 2008They would have been carrying tent and food, they could have camped where they were, if they had been a group of mine I would have pulled them for not using a bit of savvy.
