A man died today after falling from Crib Goch.

The 62-year-old from Lincolnshire perished when he slipped from the ridge, on the Snowdon horseshoe. Rescuers went to the man’s aid shortly after 11am but were unable to save his life.

The walker, who has not been named, was walking with a companion when the accident happened. At least 20 mountain rescuers, from the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and RAF Valley, winched the man by stretcher from his position on the mountain.

He was then airlifted by RAF helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, but was pronounced dead.

North Wales Police said: “A man has died after falling on a mountain in Snowdonia today.

“Shortly after 11am North Wales Police received a report that a man had fallen on the north side of Crib Goch ridge.

“The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and RAF 22 squadron were called and airlifted the man to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor where he was pronounced dead.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The walker is believed to have fallen at least 30m (100ft).

The North-West Wales coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones has been informed.
