A woman was airlifted from a Highland pass yesterday, suffering from hypothermia.

The 46-year-old was rescued from the Lairig Ghru in the Cairngorms by a helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth. She was taken initially to Glenmore Lodge, the national outdoor activities centre.

Paramedics treated her at the lodge and she was then taken to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said the woman’s condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

The Lairig Ghru is a high pass, which threads between some of the area’s highest peaks, including Ben Macdui, Scotland’s second highest mountain. It runs for a total of 43 km (27 miles) from Deeside to Strathspey, rising to a high point of 835m (2,740ft) just north of the Pools of Dee.
