Happy walking this festive season!

Happy walking this festive season!

The grough team would like to wish all our readers a Happy Christmas.

We hope you have a great time over the festive period and that Santa brings you all the outdoors goodies you hoped for. We’ll be overindulging with the best before returning with the latest news from the great outdoors.

Once the turkey and mince pies have subsided, don’t forget the Ramblers’ Association is running its festival of winter walks, starting on Boxing Day, which will give you all the chance to walk off the effects of the sherry and turkey.

Highlights include a Worst Dressed Rambler Amble in Aberdeen, a Moody Moors walk in Bronte country in West Yorkshire, and a frozen lakes walk around Blencathra.

Full details of the festival, which runs from Boxing Day until 4 January, are on the RA website.

Forecasts at the moment are saying Britain will be in stable high pressure weather, though with more cloud than might be imagined in such a system. Fell tops should be hovering around the freezing level, with increasing chances of some mountain sunshine as we go into the weekend.

There may even be the chance to get some stunning temperature inversion shots as the highest peaks sit above cloud. Best chances of brightness lie in the West of Britain.

So get your gear on and get out there!
