A member of a mountain rescue team was injured yesterday in a fall during training.

The man fell at Smiddy Creag on An Teallach while on an exercise with Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team. The accident happened about 11am on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said: “He was conveyed to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness by Stornoway Coastguard helicopter for further examination and treatment. His injuries are not thought to be serious.”

The Dundonnell MRT has about 35 volunteer rescuers, composed of keen walkers and climbers and covers more than 5,000 sq km (2,000 sq miles) of remote rugged terrain in north-west Scotland.

The team meets at least once a month to train in search and rescue techniques, including stretcher work, avalanche search and working with search-and-rescue helicopters.

An Teallach, in the Dundonnell and Fisherfield Forest, is a challenging and complex mountain with two munros, Bidean a’ Ghlas Thuill, at 1,062 m (3,484 ft) and Sgurr Fiona, 1,060 m (3,478 ft).
