A five-year-old boy is following in his family’s footsteps and into the record books with an ascent of England’s highest mountain.
Robin Regan is now the youngest person to complete all 214 Wainwright summits, a feat previously achieved by both his sisters. The boy, from Caldbeck, Cumbria, summited Scafell Pike on Sunday to break the record.
Robin’s sister Ellen walked into the record books in 2006 at the age of nine when she completed the Wainwrights, an achievement bettered by her sister Kerry the following year when she was seven.
The five-year-old was helped in his task by parents Clare and David. He snatched the Wainwright crown from six-year-old Tom Fryers who raised more than £5,000 for charity by his efforts.
Robin’s Sunday walk also saw him summiting Slight Side and Scafell.

17 April 2009I have 2 conflicting statements regarding this.
1. It's great a yound kid enjoys the hills, hopefully enjoy the hills for what they are, rather then a place to break some stupid record (of which there are many!).
2. I personnaly think that no child under 16 should be put on record as a "record breaker". 214 wainwrights is an awfully large amount of excercise for a 5 year old's body.
Having previously breed dogs, I'd never take one under 18 months old for long walks as it's bones/joints/ligaments are still developing and can damage them.

17 April 2009Yawn... I'm with the above poster. I get really fed up of these silly "record breaking" claims.

18 April 2009Congratulations to all these kids, but I'd also like to know how many of the fells they actually walked up by themselves, ie. not in a papoose or or their dads shoulders.

19 April 2009Well done to the kid and his family for getting out in the fresh air and giving the kids sense of real achievement at an early age. They are much better off out walking than sitting in the house playing on the XBox and watching TV. I sense a bit of jealousy from the above comments

19 April 2009I sense that you're wrong then

19 April 2009Yes let us hope that amid all the chirpy talk about healthy lifestyles this kids not being damaged.
And who was it who said "The great thing about children is they never bore you with stories of their clever parents"
