A student’s trip in the Lakes had a painful ending.

The 14-year-old, part of a group from Nottingham, had to be stretchered off the fell by a mountain rescue team after injuring her ribs in a fall. The girl was with a group camping on Glenridding Dodd as part of an expedition from an outdoor centre.

The incident happened after the group set up camp and the girl tripped over a tent peg, falling on to a rock. 17 members of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team went to her aid after being alerted by police.

A spokesperson for the team said: “On reaching the site, the girl was treated for her injuries and placed on a stretcher. She was then lowered down the fell to the lakeshore and taken by a team ambulance to the rescue base.

“She was then transferred to a county ambulance for investigation at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.”
