Police are appealing for sightings of a walker who has been reported missing from his Lancashire home.

The man, from Blackpool, has not been seen since Friday and police say they are increasingly concerned for his welfare. He is believed to have planned a walking trip in western Scotland.

Peter Smith, 54, is described as white with a tanned complexion. He is 1.70m (5ft 7ins), with a medium build, brown eyes, clean shaven with grey, curly, receding hair. Mr Smith wears glasses.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary, which was alerted to the missing man by Lancashire Constabulary, said: “He had intended hillwalking in the West Coast of Scotland, Skye and Lochalsh areas. Some of the places mentioned are Knoydart, Kinlochewe and Beinn Dronaig, near Strathcarron.”
