The women from Rococo who will be cutting hair at Britain's highest salon

Walkers who make it to the top of Britain’s highest mountain this Sunday may find themselves a cut above the rest.

Snowdon may have a brand new cafe at its summit, but Scotland’s top munro will be blessed with a hair salon – for one day only.

Britain’s highest hairdressers will be on duty to offer hillwalkers a quick snip on the summit of Ben Nevis. Organisers believe the 1,334m (4,406 ft) high salon will set a world record.

The women, from the Rococo hair-and-beauty business in Dunkeld, Perthshire, will offer haircuts to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support and the John Muir Trust, which owns much of the mountain.

Salon owner Ann Medlock said: “We hope people climbing Ben Nevis will want to take advantage of the opportunity to visit Britain’s highest hairdressers.

“Obviously we won’t be doing anything too complicated like highlights or perms, but anyone wanting a quick trim while they are on the top will be more than welcome.

“There is a serious side to the event: very few people have been unaffected by cancer, whether they themselves or friends and family have suffered from the disease. Ben Nevis is one of the most iconic mountains in the world and the John Muir Trust do a great job maintaining the paths and conserving the landscape so people can continue to enjoy visiting the area.

“We just want to do something to show that hairdressing is not a frivolous business, and to help two very deserving causes.”

The event will take place on Father’s Day, Sunday, 21 June.
