A Sea King helicopter airlifted the climber to hospital

A climber was airlifted to hospital after suffering back and pelvis injuries in a fall in Buttermere.

The 25-year-old man from the Keswick area fell about 25m (82ft) while on Grey Crag on Thursday. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the climber’s aid after his fall, below High Stile’s 807m (2,648ft) summit.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey winched the man from the crag after he had been treated by the rescue team and an RAF paramedic.

He was taken to Furness General Hospital in Barrow.

Grey Crag has two dozen climbing routes, ranging from Difficult to Hard Very Severe.
