Mankinholes, where the woman was heading

The search for a young woman thought to be missing on the West Yorkshire moors has been stepped down after she was reported safe and well.

The mother of the 17-year-old contacted police to say she had made her way home after being spotted last night wearing a mini skirt and fishnet stockings, heading towards moorland above Hebden Bridge.

A member of the public contacted police, concerned that the woman was inappropriately dressed for the moors on a night of atrocious weather, with torrential rain and strong winds.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team mounted a major search of the area between Withens Clough Reservoir and Stoodley Pike, and the West Yorkshire Police helicopter joined the hunt for the woman.

However, her mother reported that she had merely been making her way to her home in the Mankinholes area and that she was wearing wellingtons.

The search continued into today, with police dogs joining the operation. Chief Inspector Mark Allsop, who headed the hunt for the woman, expressed his relief at the happy outcome and said the help of the Calder Valley SRT had been indispensible.
