An RAF helicopter crew found the walker and airlifted him to the valley

A walker was found unharmed after a major search in the Scottish Highlands.

The man rang police at Fort William about 7.30pm yesterday, Sunday, to say he was lost and disoriented in the Mamores range. A Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth joined members of the Lochaber and Glencoe Mountain Rescue Teams in the search.

The operation which centred on the Binnein Mòr and Binnein Beag area, was suspended at 1.40am due to inclement weather and resumed at first light today.

Lochaber MRT and the RAF rescue helicopter continued the search for the man, aged about 40 and described by a Northern Constabulary spokesperson as experienced and well equipped. The walker was found by the RAF helicopter crew and airlifted from the mountain this morning at 10.40, and taken to Glen Nevis. He did not need hospital treatment.

  • Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team has been called out to the aid of an injured mountain biker on the new downhill Red Route at the Nevis Range on Aonach Mòr. The man, in his 30s, sustained his injuries in a fall about 2pm today, Monday.

No further details have been released.
