A man has died after a fall in the Torridon Highlands.

The walker died on Beinn Eighe after a party of four spent the night on the 1,010m (3,314ft) mountain. A Coastguard helicopter crew recovered the body of the man from the mountain, along with two women who were stuck on a nearby ledge.

A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary said: “Police were alerted to a mountain rescue incident just before 7 o’clock this morning after a walker reported three of his companions were stuck on a ledge about a mile and a half up Beinn Eighe, Torridon.

“The man reported one male member of the party had fallen and suffered a head injury and two others, both female, were also in need of assistance.”

Members of the Torridon Mountain Rescue Team met the walker at the car park at the foot of the mountain about 8am this morning, Monday, after being mobilised by the police. The Stornoway Coastguard helicopter also flew to the scene.

The police spokesperson continued: “Upon arrival it transpired that the man with the head injury had sadly died and his two female companions were taken off the hill by helicopter and treated by ambulance staff. They are not believed to be seriously injured.”

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
