Visitors to the annual meeting of the British Mountaineering Council will be able to indulge their favourite pastimes: climbing, walking, drinking, eating – and surfing.

The venue for the council’s annual general meeting is Rhossili on the Gower peninsula –famed for its surfing. The meeting, open to all members, will combine the business of the organisation with outdoor activities.

Climbers can head to Fall Bay with Chris Wyatt of the South Wales Mountaineering Club to sample routes graded from Difficult to E6. Walkers are invited to a trip Worm’s Head, led by Sian Musgrave, National Trust head warden for Gower. The area has a resident colony of seals.

Mountaineers who are tired of rock and tramping along in boots, Rhossili beach offers some of the best surfing in south Wales.

The AGM weekend starts on Friday 16 April and the actual meeting is on Saturday at 4pm. Hotel, bunkbarn and camping accommodation is all available close-by.

Scott Titt is being recommended for the post of vice president, and the national council has also recommended members accept a resolution to hold subscription at this year’s levels in 2011.

Details of the AGM meeting are on the BMC website.
