A conservation charity has extended its range of guided walks to take in a challenging Highland ridge.

The National Trust for Scotland is offering the chance to walk with one of its rangers on the Five Sisters of Kintail. The route, aimed at strong walkers, includes three munros.

The walks are on offer from now until the end of September and can be booked direct with the NTS’s ranger service. Minimum group size is three. The trust already offers guided walks on three munros in Glencoe.

There are chances to spot golden eagles, ptarmigan and red deer as well as bagging the 3,000-footers Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe, Sgurr na Carnach and Sgurr Fhuaran.

Property manager Willie Fraser said: “The Five Sisters of Kintail offer a great day’s walking with magnificent views around Scotland when it’s clear.

“In this guided walk, the going is quite steep on the ascent and there’s a bit of scrambling along the ridge itself, but it’s really worth it. Walkers should be pretty fit and make sure they have the right gear: walking boots, waterproofs, spare clothes, food and drink as we can have four seasons in one day here.”

The traverse of the Five Sisters is a 15km (9⅓-mile) ridge walk above Glen Shiel taking in the Bealach na Lapain, Sgurr na Spainteach, Sgurr nan Saighead and Beinn Buidhe, involving almost 1,400m (4,593ft) of ascent.

Cost of the guided walk is £45 each. Bookings can be made by ringing the NTS ranger service on 0844 493 2231 or by contacting rangers by email.
