Fancy being the next Sir Chris Bonington?

Berghaus, the company the Everest summiteer chairs, is offering cash and gear to adventurers who are chosen in a monthly giveaway.

Each month, one adventure will receive £1,000, plus a grand’s-worth of Berghaus gear to help realise their applicants’ dreams. Members of the public will have the chance to vote on which of three shortlisted monthly entrants wins.

The company said: “For decades, the likes of Sir Chris Bonington, Mick Fowler and Leo Houlding have been a source of inspiration for everyone in the company, providing the stories, images and drama that help define Berghaus.

“Now, Berghaus want to help even more people achieve their own dreams of adventure. A panel of experts from Berghaus and Climb magazine will shortlist applications and readers will have the opportunity to choose the winner online.

“Each month we’ll give one adventure £1,000 cash and £1,000-worth of Berghaus gear to help them realise their dreams. But you can help decide who gets the prize; a panel of Berghaus experts will shortlist the three best applications each month, but the public will vote for who ultimately wins the prize.”

Closing date for applications is 30 January 2011. Details are on the Berghaus website.

Berghaus was formed by climbers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison who opened a shop in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1966. Their company was taken over by the Pentland Group in 1993.
