Youngsters visiting a national park can get a taste of adventure with a range of outdoor activities.

A mobile climbing wall will be one of the attractions at Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales, along with simulated kayaking and caving.

The bank holiday Monday event is being run by Go Dales!, an organisation formed to encourage eight- to 25-year-olds from the Keighley, Bradford, Craven, Richmondshire and Sedbergh areas into the Yorkshire Dales national park and to enjoy the adventurous sports it offers.

The bank holiday activities will be on offer from 10am to 4pm on Monday 30 August in the village’s national park car park and will be staffed by qualified professional outdoor instructors.

Go Dales! project officer Kath Needham said: “We want to give people a feel for the activities available in and around the Yorkshire Dales national park. The aim of this event is to make young people feel inspired enough to venture out and try a new outdoor activity for themselves right here in the national park, aided by the support and guidance of the Go Dales! project.

“In addition, 18- to 25-year-olds may be able to apply for subsidised activity courses run in September and October.

“There is no need to book in advance on Monday – everything is completely free. Just turn up on the day.”
