Place Fell, scene of the rescue

A walker was stretchered from a Lakeland fell after suffering problems while descending towards the valley.

The 47-year-old woman from Carlisle was rescued from Place Fell by members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team shortly after 4pm today.

A spokesperson for the team said the woman developed a knee problem while walking off the 657m (2,156ft) hill. The spokesperson continued: “She had tried to carry on walking but her knee collapsed and she was in great deal of pain. She was carried from the fell on a stretcher to a team Land Rover and transported back to Patterdale base.”

Fourteen members of the team took part in the rescue.
