Police rescuers have called in a helicopter to winch an injured walker to safety in the Scottish Highlands.

Tayside police were alerted at about 12.45pm after the man, who was with three companions, fell 12m (40ft) down a ravine in Glen Lyon, near Aberfeldy.

Tayside Police’s Search and Rescue team and a paramedic went to the walker’s aid, on the Meggernie estate, using 4×4s, and confirmed that the man had sustained lower leg and spinal injuries.

A police spokesperson said they were awaiting the arrival of a helicopter to winch the injured man from the site, from where he is expected to be flown to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, for further treatment.
