A walker was airlifted from a Cumbrian fell after injuring her leg.

The 51-year-old woman from Bath slipped on the path up Red Pike from Ennerdale.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 3.30pm today and 31 rescuers were involved in the incident, which happened next to Gillflinter Beck.

Steve Brailey, deputy team leader, said: “She sustained a knee injury and was unable to load bear on the leg. The team stretchered the casualty down to the Great North Air Ambulance; she was then flown to West Cumberland Hospital [in Whitehaven].”

The Gillflinter Beck path leads from near the High Gillerthwaite youth hostel to the 755m (2,477ft) summit of Red Pike.
