The man was rescued near Brackenbottom Scar on Pen-y-ghent

A walker was airlifted from a fell in the Yorkshire Dales after suffering a suspected broken leg in a slip.

The 57-year-old man was treated by members of the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation today after they were alerted about 12.50pm.

Paramedics treated the walker at the scene, on the path leading up Pen-y-ghent near Brackenbottom Scar.

He was then stretchered a short distance to a waiting air ambulance and flown to hospital.

Volunteers from the CRO carry out rescues both on the Dales fells and in the area’s caves and potholes. Today’s rescue was the team’s 46th this year.
