A walker was airlifted to hospital after suffering head and chest injuries when he fell 30m (100ft).

The 74-year-old fell while close to Thornhow End on St Sunday Crag in the Lake District.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 3.25 today, Thursday and went to the walker’s aid. He was treated at the scene by members of the team and a paramedic from the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance.

A spokesperson for the team said: “An RAF Sea King was requested to evacuate the casualty and he was winched from the fell and flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.”
