A body found on a remote Highland mountain is that of a man who has been missing for two years, police said.

Members of the public found the human remains yesterday at about 2.20pm on the hillside of Sròn Mhic Gille-mhartainn in the Monadhliath Mountains.

Police officers from Aviemore went to the site, 5km (3 miles) north of Laggan.

A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary said: “Inquiries have established the identity of the man who was reported missing from the Metropolitan Police area in 2009. His identity will not be revealed until next of kin have been informed.”

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal, the spokesperson said.

Sròn Mhic Gille-mhartainn is an outlier of the 844m (2,769ft) Carn an Leth-choin, above Gleann Madagain.
