A climber has died after a fall in the Highlands.

Members of the Kintail Mountain Rescue Team were joined by search dogs yesterday after police were alerted about 5.30pm.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth also aided rescuers in a major search on the hills above the Cluanie Inn in Glen Shiel.

Police said the climber had fallen some distance.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said: “Kintail Mountain Rescue Team, Search and Rescue Dogs Association search dogs along with police and Rescue 137 from RAF Lossiemouth attended and a protracted search was carried out, resulting in the fallen climber being located, having suffered fatal injuries.”

The spokesperson said no further details will be released until next of kin have been informed.
