A woman was airlifted from a Snowdonia mountain after an injury left her unable to reach the valley.

The 18-year-old was with a large walking group down the South Ridge of Tryfan today when she aggravated an old knee injury which stopped her continuing.

The group leader raised the alarm and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was alerted about 2.45pm.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey, the crew of which was training in the area, was able to fly the walker to hospital without the need for the mountain rescue team to set out on foot.
