Outdoor brand Berghaus has stepped up its range of boots for the 2012 spring and summer with three new models pitched between its lightweight and 3/4 season boots.

The Exterra range comprises three models, all featuring a Gore-Tex membrane for waterproofing.

The three-season boots sit between the high-end Tarazed footwear and the Explorer range, aimed at less technical walking.

Bergaus said: “The technical hiking range has been designed with the frequent outdoor adventurer in mind and offers the technical support to allow wearers to perform at their highest level whether attacking via ferratas or tackling multi-day journeys on long distance trails.”

The Exterra Ridge GTX is a Gore-Tex lined, waterproof full-grain leather boot designed to provide comfort, protection and support for tough trails and mountains paths.

It has a full 360-degree high-abrasion mudguard surrounding the perimeter of the shoe, providing superior durability off-trail. The company said the 100 per cent recycled Eco Ortholite shock-absorbing insole, lined with ETC low friction mesh, is designed to prevent blisters and allow wearers to go the distance in comfort.

It retails at £150.

The Exterra Trek GTX, selling for £135, is described by Berghaus as the ideal technical all rounder boot.

Fashioned from waterproof nubuck and high-abrasion nylon Cordura, the boot has features to tackle technical, summer mountain routes.

The external heel mounted Ergonomic Holding System is injected with hard-wearing TPU. Berghaus said: “It is integrated with the lacing system to securely hold the back foot down into the heel pocket created by Berghaus’ new performance last, reducing friction and the chance of heel blisters.”

The lightest in the trio of boots is the Exterra Light, with a recommended price of £125 which, Berghaus said: “Saves weight by putting the right technology where it’s needed most.

“Ideal for warm climates and seasons, done-in-a-day activities and light, fast backpacking. A great partner for the ‘weight watcher’, this boot still provides the support and comfort needed for trail after trail.”
