A walker was airlifted to hospital after injuring her ankle when she stumbled on rough ground.

The 34-year-old was walking on the Stake Pass in the Lake District yesterday, Saturday, when she slipped.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 10.25am and 15 volunteer members went to the woman’s aid.

A spokesperson said: “The team responded, and had set off down Langstrath when the air ambulance appeared.

“It was, however, only able to land 500m below the casualty site, and consequently the team’s services were needed to stretcher the lady down to the aircraft.”

After treatment, the walker was flow to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven for further treatment.

The rescue took just less than 3½ hours.
