A walker was airlifted to hospital after breaking his hip in a fall.

Two mountain rescue teams went to the aid of the 74-year-old man yesterday, Thursday, on a Peak District hillside.

Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were called to Cow Low, near the Winnats Pass, west of Castleton.

The rescuers were alerted at 3pm after the walker slipped on wet ground and fell down a gully, injuring himself.

An Edale team spokesperson said: “He had come to rest on a steep slope with his daughter, who was with him, concerned that he may slip further down the hillside.

“He was given medical treatment by ambulance staff and team members before being moved to a more secure location.”

An RAF Sea King helicopter which had been called by the ambulance service then winched the walker aboard along with a team doctor before flying them to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.
