The woman was tackling the Coledale Horseshoe when she broke her leg

A walker was stretchered from a fell after breaking her leg.

The 31-year-old woman was walking the Coledale Horseshoe in the Lake District today when she fractured her lower leg after attempting to jump across a muddy beck and landing awkwardly.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 3.35pm and 19 team members went to the woman’s aid on Stile End.

The team was able to get two of its vehicles to High Coledale and was with the walker within 15 minutes. An ambulance paramedic went with team members and gave the walker pain relief at the site.

After splinting her leg, the rescue team stretchered her back down off the fell to a waiting ambulance, which took her for further treatment at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

The rescue, which took almost two hours, was the team’s 51st of the year.
