Details of a mountain marathon will be revealed at a European outdoor trade show later this month.

The Original Mountain Marathon will take place in October in northern England, and the event is using the OutDoor exhibition in Germany for its official launch.

The event, which started life as the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon, has teamed up with the Outdoor Industries Association for the official announcement at Friedrichshafen, one of the biggest outdoor trade shows in the world.

Andy Williams of OMM said: “OMM is delighted to be working with the OIA. The association has been reinvigorated recently and is leading on behalf of the industry on many fronts.

“The challenge ahead for the OIA is still a big one and there’s a nice parallel with what will be facing competitors on the OMM 2012, so teaming up for this launch at OutDoor made a lot of sense to us.”

Andrew Denton, chief executive of the OIA, added: “The Original Mountain Marathon has a fantastic heritage and reputation that extends far beyond its UK base.

“It is an event that has vision, is extremely authentic, and is a British success story, all words I would like more people to use when describing the OIA.

“We look forward to revealing more about OMM 2012 on our stand and meeting many existing and potential association members during OutDoor.”

Visitors to the show will also be able to take part in a mini indoor OMM, using race cards from the OIA stand to visit a series of members’ checkpoints round the exhibition halls, with 10 OMM rucksacks as prizes.

The OIA will also offer a range of services for its members during OutDoor.
