A walker was stretchered from a Lakeland fell after injuring her ankle.

The woman was walking on Walna Scar Road, a track above Coniston, yesterday when she slipped and suffered the injury.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 2.55pm and 11 members of the volunteer team went to the aid of the walker.

A team spokesperson said: “The casualty was treated for an ankle injury by team members before being stretchered a short distance to a Coniston MRT vehicle and taken to the team’s base in Coniston.

“She was later transferred to a land ambulance for the onward journey to Furness General Hospital, Barrow in Furness.”
