The walker is believed to be in Glen Etive

A major search is underway for a walker missing in the Scottish Highlands.

The man, in his 70s, has not been seen since noon yesterday, and is believed to be in the Glen Etive area.

Northern Constabulary said three mountain rescue teams have joined the search for the man, who was believed to be walking alone.

Strathclyde Police are also assisting Northern Constabulary with their enquiries.

The walker is described as about 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall, of slim build, with short white hair. The man wears glasses.

Police said he is believed to be carrying a large green and maroon rucksack, a walking pole and is believed to have with him an orange plastic emergency bivvy bag.

They said he is wearing dark brown walking boots and grey and blue walking trousers.

Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, Oban Mountain Rescue Team and RAF Leuchars Mountain Rescue Team are all taking part in the search for the missing walker.
