The Naked Rambler will spend another spell behind bars after being found guilty of a breach of the peace.

Sheriff James Williamson jailed Stephen Gough, who walked naked from Land’s End to John o’Groats in 2003, for five months.

Sitting at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, the sheriff told Gough, known for his exploits as the Naked Rambler, he had no choice but to jail the former Royal Marine because he would not co-operate with social workers.

At a previous hearing, the sheriff had expressed concern about Gough’s mental state.

He was arrested in Townhill, Dunfermline, after several members of the public complained he was naked near a children’s playground in the town.

He had been released from Perth Prison three days previously.

Police relented from their previous policy of immediately rearresting the 53-year-old when leaving jail naked.

But the court heard he refused to take a different route across fields suggested by police or accept a lift from them past the play area.
